Tendon-driven robotic exoskeleton for shoulder and elbow assistance

ExoETA is a fully wearable robotic exoskeleton specifically designed to support overhead tasks. The system comprises a soft exosuit, a single tendon with custom anchor point, a proprietary force transmission mechanism and an integrated control unit.

Wearability

ExoETA is a fully wearable active robotic exoskeleton, with all components integrated into the wearable system.

Soft exosuit

ExoETA mechanism is seamlessly integrated into the soft exosuit, available in standard sizes or fully customized to fit individual users.

Soft robotic

ExoETA is based on a soft
tendon-driven robotic mechanism for adaptive and lightweight support.

Designed for overhead tasks

ExoETA supports individuals in reducing efforts and fatigues during the execution of tasks that require sustained arm elevation above head level. Unlike rigid exoskeletons, which rely on bulky materials and increase the volume around the person, ExoETA acts more as an active shirt, maintaining a low profile without adding substantial volume around the body. ExoETA stands out for its proprietary cable-driven mechanism, which is seamlessly integrated into the soft exosuit. The system provides effective assistance during both work-related tasks and activities of daily living (ADL).

Which are its benefits?

ExoETA offers several key benefits: it reduces muscle fatigue, physical strain and enhance endurance and comfort. It preserves freedom of movement and reduce the work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

What is used for?

ExoETA is used to assist individuals during tasks that involve prolonged arm elevation, by reducing muscular effort and fatigue and joint workload.

Features and materials

Lightweight and compact, ExoETA combines soft, elastic materials with strategically reinforced zones to ensure optimal comfort and durability. Its intuitive adjustment system guarantees a secure fit and precise joint alignment. At its core, it features a tendon-inspired system powered by a lumbar-mounted motor. Bowden cables follow an ergonomic X-structure across the back, pass through padded, reinforced shoulder zones, and split into a Y-configuration along the arms. This architecture provides targeted elbow support, enhancing upper limb performance while preserving natural biomechanics. A sophisticated control algorithm allows the system to be used in different modes by exploiting a minimum number of inertial sensors, predicting the optimal assistance levels without user interaction, thereby maximizing efficiency and user comfort in a variety of tasks.

  • Easy to wear

  • Comfortable

  • User friendly

  • Active assistance

  • Minimally invasive

for work-related tasks

ExoETA supports workers in overhead activities, such as those commonly performed in the automotive industry below the car body.

for ADL activities

ExoETA also supports individuals in home settings during various overhead activities, such as drilling, screwing, leveraging, and other tasks that require arm elevation above head level.
